Dear Melissa,
A NEW YEAR and a new
start! So why do I already feel like I am
behind. Yes, most of us do tend to tackle too much
at the start of any New Year. We make an endless
list of resolutions only to find them going by the
wayside within the first thirty days. So, to help
myself and you all, I have written a few tips on how
to make your resolutions truly effective and a
success rather than something that simply gets
recycled year to year. Share your success stories!
“The difference between an ordinary income
and an extraordinary income is implementation of
excellence and education.” MG Do you ever
find that it is easy and even fun to continually
educate ourselves on the newest, latest, and
greatest technology, marketing techniques, branding
tricks and much more . . . and yet, we never
implement. Well last year was my last luxury year of
education without implementation. Now it is time to
put the technology to the test, the techniques to
the challenge, and the tricks to the trade. 2007 is
my year to implement and finesse, to put to use all
those wonderful gadgets and gizmos I’ve heard and
read about that are designed to simplify and
streamline my life. This is my year to initiate all
the new methods and a bit of madness destined to
change my practice and my preaching! Stay tuned for
more.
Old Dog and New Tricks! It is true,
I have finally joined the rest of the tuned in and
turned on universe with the gift, from a friend, of
an IPOD this holiday season. I am still learning how
to load it, which may amuse many of you, no doubt!
I also received a very cool digital picture frame
but have yet to get the lessons on that one. Next is
a PDA of some sort. I know, I know, I’ve been in the
dark ages. I just don’t believe in being connected
24/7 but instead deciding when I want to connect and
with whom! I still want to be the master of my
choices rather than at the world’s beck and call. Is
that even a possibility? So what are your
recommendations, keep in mind I am VERIZON based and
not likely to change, my coverage surpasses anyone
else that I know of.
Live well and beautifully,
MG
| Life by Design: Resolutions That Work! |
 |
|
Be concise and concrete! This means
that to really have a resolution work it needs to be
easily measured and tracked. So if you want to lose
20 pounds, just saying you want to lose it in the
next three months isn’t going to do it. If instead,
you state clearly that you will lose it by adding 30
minutes of daily exercise, and cutting out sugar and
white flour products, and you will meet your ideal
weight on March 30, 2007 at 9am, you are infinitely
more likely to get there.
Keep it real and
attainable! If you resolve to make $250,000
this year and last year you made less than $100,000
you may want to reexamine your goal. While it is by
no means out of the question, it may be more
realistic to plan to double your current income and
create the plan and dates to do so. When I began in
business in 1994, my income doubled every year for
the first five years. This meant hard work, long
hours, and dedication. It won’t happen without it.
Remind yourself daily! Write down
your resolutions on index cards and read them aloud
at least three times each morning and three times
each night. This means you may want to also consider
a reasonable number of resolutions. Consider no more
than two in any specific life area: health and well
being, career, relationships, travel and adventure,
homemaking and entertaining, interior design (home
and office), and personal image and style. A long
list doesn’t make it easier to get done, it just
makes it overwhelming.
Find an accountability
partner! Share your sought after
experiences and resolutions with a friend or
co-worker. Agree to talk once a week and report on
your progress, discuss roadblocks and get the
support you need to stay on the path to success.
Too often we allow ourselves to slide, but when
someone else is holding us to our word, we stick to
it more effectively.
Make the experience count! One of
the biggest reasons I choose the word experience
instead of goal is because when someone doesn’t
achieve a goal they suffer a sense of failure and
miss the point of what they experienced. We often
learn more from the journey than reaching some
destination. By framing your goals as experiences,
it is always a win and you can focus on the path
getting there rather than simply the brass ring at
the end.
Make 2007 your year!

| Upcoming Travel and Adventure: West Coast for Dreaming |
 |
|
It is 6am as I write this. I have been up for an
hour getting critical loose ends wrapped up before I
head to the West Coast for a week of Marcia Weider’s
Dream Coach University. I have been coaching
unofficially for years and am increasingly aware of
the need for such services particularly in the
design and home furnishings industry. I attended
Marcia’s Create Your Future Now workshop last Spring
and signed on board. The program is certified and my
website for coaching is in the works! I am excited
about being able to work with designers and others
in our trade to design their business for success
and the their lives for joyous living.

| Latest Presentation: Keller Williams ALC Retreat |
 |
|
Last week I did a workshop for Keller Williams’s Agent
Leadership Council Retreat. The event was held at
Cheaha State Park in Alabama, in fact the highest
point in Alabama. I am betting it is quite beautiful
in the warmer months, we got fog and sleet! It was a
great group, very involved and interested and they
made terrific progress with establishing not only
individual goals (or experiences as I like to refer
to them), but also as teams.
I now enjoy Preferred Vendor Status with several
offices both here in Atlanta and in Birmingham, and
look forward to being of continued service in
working with the agents to realize their dreams, and
deliver more of the American Dream to their clients!
Designer Movie Reviews
"The Black
Dahlia" - Josh Hartnett, Scarlett
Johansson, Aaron Eckhart, Hilary Swank

I actually turned this
off about 2/3 of the way through. The sets and
costumes were rich but the story line was
pathetically tragic. Alone Eckhart is a true talent,
Swank is one of the finest, and Johansson has
promise, but Hartnett is way out of his league. I
couldn’t follow this at all, and lost interest
quickly, the star given is obligatory. Entirely
missable even for home viewing.
"Notes from
a Scandal" - Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Cate
Blanchett

One woman’s secret is
another woman’s opportunity, how true. Dench is
frighteningly brilliant in this, calculating,
resourceful, conniving, and desperate in every
sense. She is destined to win at any cost and feared
enough never to be stopped. Blanchett is tragically
pathetic, yet winsome, and truly likeable (essential
for a heroine), Nighy is the perfect choice for her
husband. He seems almost famous, very artsy, yet
with an amazing capacity for heart and truth. I knew
early on the challenges that lay ahead with the
wanderings of a young teacher (Blanchett) with a
host of hot blooded and even hotter headed young
lads. There is something devilishly attractive about
alleged innocence coupled with false bravado. Beware
those you share your secrets with, it gives them so
much power . . .
