Getting What You Want; Wanting What You Have
Volume IV Issue III - March 2007

Dear Melissa,

Short months, long days! Goodness February really flew by and we are half way into March. Spring has sprung, all the bulbs are up and blooming, my new cherry trees are in full blossom, the striped camellias are breathtaking. It feels like a time of renewal and growth in all regards. So what new plans do you have? Where are you growing next?

A full plate! I’m enjoying an abundance of design work right now and all diverse projects. I get the delight of working with wonderful clients I’ve enjoyed for years and we are now updating their home for future sale and a shift to empty nesting. A new client on board is getting a two week transformation of her cluster home from boring to beautiful inspired by a love of color, Asian aesthetics, and the Beatles! Another new client is moving into a sizeable new townhome with his kids visiting regularly, and we are making it a personal statement and temporary stopping place before he buys his dream home. Again a short term fix for long term enjoyment! Design is the cornerstone of every well lived life.

Next book! Well I figure if I announce it here, along with having promised it to an event this Fall, I will really have the fire under me. I do love to write and this one has been in the works in my mind for years. Time to put it on paper. Now I get to plan those long weekends for writing in Highlands, NC and any other wonderful quiet place I can think of (yes, I do have an ulterior motive).

Coaching clients are climbing aboard ready to get their own lives in order and determine their path, purpose and progress. Are you ready to be the architect of your vision, the designer of your plans, the builder of your connections, and the celebrater of your success? CALL ME!

Live well and beautifully,

MG

Living by Design: Getting What You Want; Wanting What You Have

Life is funny sometimes, like the song says, we may not get what we want, but we do seem to get what we need. Our focus is everything. What we focus on truly shows up in our lives. So when we start to complain, as so many do, that we aren’t getting what we want, maybe it is not the universe we should be pointing the finger at, but instead looking inward at our own interiors and the design we have created. The power of the mind is everything, and what we think about expands into the reality of our lives. What is it you are manifesting in your life that you don’t want? And the reason can be as simple as you are focusing on NOT wanting it! You see the universe doesn’t hear NOT, so it gives you what you don’t want in addition to all else asked for. The key is to learn to redirect ourselves from a positive viewpoint. No, this isn’t Pollyanna talk at all. But I know too often that when I ask clients what they want, they have an easier time telling me what they don’t want. Why not re-examine our lives with the light on and look for what we do want and focus exclusively on that. For example, if you want to be fit and healthy focus on that, instead of NOT being fat and unhealthy. If you want to have abundance and prosperity, focus on those elements, instead of NOT being poor and in debt.

In tandem with getting really clear and positive in your focus, it is essential to be gracious for what shows up. An attitude of gratitude, as old as it sounds, is one of the keys to a happy life. When we put our attention on the abundance of life, when we act in a generous and thankful manner, those things that make our lives so will continue to show up. When they don’t, it is best to look within first for change, and evaluate our own interiors. There are countless examples of this in the world and more importantly in our own lives if we just look. Too often we choose to operate with blinders on, and spend our days blaming rather stepping up, taking responsibility and determining a new and better path. Sometimes what we need is the wake up call that keeps on ringing until we pick it up and really understand our lives are of our own design, not anyone else’s and by becoming our own architect, designer, builder, and decorator, we get to celebrate each and every day!

Absurdities in Everyday: Best Banking

Okay, I know I have to be a little careful here, but when this new bank launched it’s advertising campaign, the only thought I had was what is so great about Sunday banking? Hey, I work long hours and long weeks, and the last thing I want is another reason to work on a Sunday! In fact, I kind of like the idea that in many European cities shops close in the afternoon for a couple of hours and in some countries, nothing is open on Sundays! Wow, a mandatory day to relax, chill, regroup, refresh, and breath. What a concept! When will we Americans start to value relationships, family and friends over our careers, jobs, and obligations?

No Secret!

I got such great response from my last THERE IS NO SECRET! ezine that I decided you must want more. . . We each hold the secret within ourselves to untold success, prosperity, adventure, travel, style, romance, and more. The key is in getting ourselves from the ever popular wishing and hoping stages to the brilliance of brainstorming and the subsequent reality of strategy and implementation. This isn’t as difficult as many imagine. It is as simple as focusing on what we want with dedication, devotion and clarity and the brilliance will show up in the form of ideas that will take us to strategy and success. For example, lately I have been focusing hard on how I can have my book Celebrate Your Life! make a real difference (okay being a bestseller would be great too!) And I have stumbled across two terrific ideas that just showed up so to speak. Now I know that these ideas have been there for a long time, but it required my focusing intently to really see them. It is much like when we decide we want a new car and determine the make and model and suddenly we see that type of car all over the highways, whereas before we didn’t notice them. Focus creates noticing of opportunities that will bring us ever closer to our desired experiences. What are you going to focus on today?

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers."
