Design Destinations! Making the Holiday Spirit a Habit!
Volume III Issue XII - December 2006

Dear Melissa,

Are you ready? Yikes! I can’t believe that Christmas is in less than 7 days. I only just got my three live trees decorated this past weekend. I actually scaled back from last year. I’m down to a total of five trees including one glass and one permanent (a nice term for fake) from last year's six. It is still way too many and I’m heading out of town next year to avoid all the hoopla . . .

Looking forward to a quiet holiday. A friend and I were planning to travel to Sedona for a few days between Christmas and New Year’s but reconsidered as we both have much too much to wrap up on the business front and want to enter 2007 ready and primed! I even forwent my annual holiday bash this year, just no time. How does everyone do this? I mean all the holiday hoopla on top of regular full time work and careers and family etc. It seems extra crazy this year.

Shopping made easy! Well, I found the antidote to holiday shopping madness. Since mall is a four letter word for me, and I am often shopping as a way of earning my living, the last thing I want to do is spend lost hours looking for impossible to find gifts and more. The solution beyond the wide world of the internet and shopping at my desk, is combining this sometimes arduous task with a delightful lunch with a friend and a shared bottle of champagne! You have no idea how much fun Nordstrom can be when you find a gifted sales professional and can enjoy the glow of good bubbly.

May your holidays be full of good cheer!

Live well and beautifully,

MG

Life By Design: The Holiday Habit

Since the holiday season seems to start earlier and earlier each year, what if we all simply lived by the holiday spirit year round? I mean really what if we were as giving as we are once a year, all the time. What if, instead of waiting for the holidays, we entertained our friends and family at special occasions of our own choosing and creation during the entire year. It seems like an incredible squeeze to get in all of the parties, decorations, gift shopping, and holiday charitableness in one short month. It makes more sense to consider the keeping our spirits up year round with well designed homes, celebrating our friends and families with parties and gatherings, sharing our abundance and generosity with others for their own occasions as well as our own, and giving to the causes of our hearts more often.

I know so many who wait for just this season or the deadline of relatives coming for a visit to actually get their home interior in order, as if they themselves are not enough of a reason. Why live by default, when you can live by design and with style?! I throw parties for every reason or no reason at all, but get a bit frustrated when in one weekend I have invites to 4-6 bashes all because it is the holidays. Wouldn’t it be much more fun to catch every party in its own unique mix but spread throughout the year? And goodness wouldn’t it be more affordable to buy gifts for smaller occasions than buying for everyone we each know all at once?

Let’s develop the holiday habit. I challenge you to take the spirit of giving the holidays bring and share it throughout the upcoming 2007. Don’t wait until you have a tree with lights or even a menorah with candles. Celebrate the abundance we each have in every day. Give!
